The Path

Five chapters, read in order. Each one builds on the last. A reader who finishes The Path can figure out solutions to problems we never explicitly cover.

  1. How Dogs Think

Why your dog does what he does (and doesn't do what you want). The 1-to-3-second window, patterns, body language, and why "he knows what he did" is never true.

  2. How Learning Works

Classical and operant conditioning, in plain language. The four quadrants of reinforcement and punishment — what they actually mean, stripped of the emotional baggage.

  3. The Tools

Markers, luring, release words, and variable rewards. The practical tools you'll use in every training session, and the exercises to make them work.

  4. Training in Practice

Threshold, reading your dog, management vs. training, progression, and when to correct. The skills that separate reading about training from actually training a dog.

  5. Apply It

Where the chapters above meet real-world behaviors. You now have the foundation — start with whatever your dog needs most.
